Wine: Talijancich Verdelho Grape: Verdelho Region: Swan Valley, Western Australia Vintage: 1995 Handover time is here and there is no shortage of souvenirs and memorabilia to mark the occasion and relieve the public of their hard-earned cash.
The range of alcoholic beverages in special bottlings is quite extensive - but most deserve to remain unopened. However, there are exceptions.
The Swan Valley wine region in Western Australia has in recent years been overshadowed by the Margaret River wine area.
There are far fewer wineries in the Swan Valley although historically it was one of the first wine producing areas of Australia.
Verdelho, a grape variety that is little known, appears to flourish in the Swan Valley's warm climate. At its best verdelho displays lovely ripe fruit flavours.
The Talijancich Verdelho is a particularly attractive wine having luscious tropical fruit flavours, good length and balance.
It has been chosen by the Hong Kong Cricket Club and the Hong Kong Football Club for a special bottling to commemorate the handover. Try a bottle - you won't be sorry.
