Singapore Airlines, Ansett International, Ansett Australia and Air New Zealand have formed an alliance which they say is the largest among airlines in the Asia-Pacific.

The airlines claim passengers will benefit from a wider choice of flight routes and frequencies; frequent flyer co-operation; simpler access to ticketing across route networks of the partner airlines; improved connections and streamlined check-in services with boarding passes issued for all inter-connecting flights at the initial check-in.

Planning to hop around Australia? Qantas has introduced 46 new flights between key leisure and business destinations in its winter domestic schedule.

A new park in northeast Scotland, an area rich in prehistoric sites, has just opened, offering visitors an introduction to the last 8,000 years of human existence.

The Archeolink Prehistory Park, 40 kilometres north of Aberdeen, a kilometre from the A96 road, explores theories of how early people lived.

It examines symbols like Neolithic and Bronze Age stone circles, and carvings on large slabs left by the Picts, ancient inhabitants of Scotland.

Eighty per cent of the domed roof structure, which is tucked into a hillside, is underground. Scotland is rich in neolithic sites, and maps listing them can be obtained at the centre.

An 18-hole championship golf course is being developed about 25 kilometres from Beijing airport.

The Huatang International Golf Club is targeted at senior executives and consular personnel. It will be completed late next year. There will be a soft opening this autumn.

The Mount Soraksan Marathon will be held in Korea on September 8 and is open to international athletes.
