The fantastic new game by Sierra On-Line is a first-person adventure of murder, revenge and Indian lore, featuring desperate characters with hidden secrets.
It places you in the recently and conveniently abandoned mining town of Cyclone, Arizona, where your friends and everyone else have disappeared.
As you hunt for your comrades in the deserted town, you twist and turn through the game, finding clues to their whereabouts almost everywhere - including in rock videos - to unmask the evil of an ancient curse.
But you have to be very careful, as searching for clues may divert your attention from the dangers that lurk underfoot and in murky corners. If you are careless, you will die.
Not a direct sequel to its predecessor, but instead a completely unrelated tale of horror and suspense, Shivers II operates much like the original Shivers, but with more inventive puzzles, many difficult but some quite simple.
You can also customise some puzzles and send them to other players - and if a puzzle completely stumps you, you can go to the flashback menu to review some valuable clues.
All in all, Shivers II: Harvest of Souls is a pretty good sequel to its predecessor.
The entertainment value and quality of the adventure game is definitely worth the cost of the package, while the graphics, videos and music scores are also outstanding.
The high-resolution 360-degree panorama engine used in the game is fascinating. It allows up and down viewing, and gives speedy screen updates when you move to a new location.
Shivers II requires a 486 DX2/66 or better IBM PC or compatibles with 12 MB of RAM, 2X CD-ROM drive, Windows 95 or Windows 3.1, SVGA 640 x 480 colours, and a 100 per cent SoundBlaster compatible soundcard with DAC.
To play the game on the Internet's World Wide Web, your computer system should run Windows 95 and be connected with a 14400 BPS modem to a 32-bit Internet Service Provider. For optimum performance, you should have a Pentium PC with 16 MB of RAM, 4X CD-ROM drive, Windows 95, soundcard with DAC and Microsoft DirectX 3.0.
MEGAHINT: You will find the lid to the electrical pot at the end of the game; but you must have captured nine Ixupi and have the electrical base in your inventory before you can find it.
MEGAHINT: To find the Viking Burial, go to the Funeral Rites room. If you enter from the Tombs and Curses room, it is to the left. If you enter from the Shaman's room, it is straight ahead.
