Put an end to greed game

WITHIN the realms of the High Island Country Park exists a bay of unparalleled beauty known as Tai Long Wan. Avid hikers will be familiar with it, as will surfers who go there to get away from the pollution of Big Wave Bay.

Unfortunately developers are also becoming familiar with it, and plans now exist to buy the villagers' land and develop it, possibly into a much needed nine-hole golf course for the Hongkong public.

There has been little mention of this in the press, probably because of the Shalotung ''incident''.

The World Wide Fund for Nature and Friends of the Earth are both looking for more information.

The environmental impact on the bay would be great, taking into consideration the pesticide run off from the course, construction waste and the imposition of an artificial course in otherwise beautiful natural surroundings.

It is about time that we stopped these greed-merchants, who see only dollar signs where others see beauty. ANDREW FUNG Repulse Bay
