OOCL expands intra-Asian service with Kawasaki route

Keith Wallis

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) will start direct services next month between Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia and the Philippines to enhance its intra-Asia network.

The fixed-day weekly service will call at Kawasaki, Chiba, Osaka, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore and Jakarta on its southbound route which starts on August 1.

The northbound service starts on August 10 from Jakarta with calls at Singapore, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, and Kawasaki.

With an overall transit time of 11 days between Kawasaki and Jakarta, OOCL expects the new services to be particularly attractive to shippers of refrigerated produce and time-sensitive manufactured goods.

The service will open up cities as gateways into Japan and China, including the Kanto area of Japan through Kawasaki, and Fujian province through Kaohsiung.
