A financial broker in New York has paid US$18,000 (HK$139,000) for the piece of ear Mike Tyson bit off Evander Holyfield in their heavyweight fight last month.

Pete Stevens bought it from a security guard at the fight venue, the MGM Grand hotel in Las Vegas.

'I know some people think I'm sick, but everybody collects baseball cards and jerseys,' he said.

It is thought the guard took the piece of ear from Holyfield's locker room in the chaotic aftermath of Tyson's disqualification defeat. Mr Stevens said he planned to preserve the chunk of flesh in formaldehyde.
