First Lady on the go

Betty Tung is moving to take up her new role as the First Lady of the SAR, spending as much time in public service as her husband does on governing.

She said yesterday she was now spending more than 10 hours a day on public activities at the expense of time with her family.

She was also going through piles of invitations from social groups asking her to become their honorary patron or president.

Mrs Tung said she might take up the posts previously held by Lavender Patten, wife of the former governor.

Yesterday, Mrs Tung accepted an invitation to become honorary sponsor of the All-Hong Kong Federation of Women.

Mrs Tung said her priority would be livelihood, children and elderly issues.
