Local firm to help build Tianjin bridge

A Hong Kong firm is to help build a 2.5-kilometre suspension bridge over the Haihe River in the northern China port city of Tianjin. Hong Kong's Tsing Ma bridge is 2.2 km long.

China Construction Holdings will finance construction of the bridge, estimated to cost 600 million yuan (HK$560 million), across the river's mouth on the Bohai Sea. It will rise 37.5 metres above water.

The river mouth marks the start of the Bohai oilfield and the site of China's largest manmade port.

About 100,000 vehicles pass through the area daily.
