Curious about slain soldier

IN the grounds of St John's Cathedral there is a solitary grave, marked by a headstone, which records the death of Private Maxwell, who presumably died during the futile battle for Hongkong against invading Japanese troops.

Who was Private Maxwell? And, what were the circumstances surrounding his death? I wonder if any of the veterans of the battle have any information on these puzzling questions? Or perhaps somewhere buried in the cathedral archives there is some clue as to what took place? TED THOMAS Wan Chai
