TT Club appointments recognise Asia growth
Britain's TT Club has appointed seven new directors to its board, four of whom are leading members of the Asian shipping and port industries.
The move highlighted the increased importance of the Asia-Pacific region to the TT Club, a spokesman for the club said.
John Meredith, group managing director of Hutchison International Terminals (HIT), is among the four new directors representing the Asian ports industry.
The club said HIT had exhibited spectacular growth over the past 20 years, with port operation firms in China, Britain, the Bahamas, Panama and Burma.
The second key appointment is Enrique Razon, chairman of Manila-based Philippines' International Container Services (Ictsi).
Mr Razon was a member of a family with strong shipping traditions, the club said.
Ictsi has grown from a leading stevedore in the Philippines to develop container terminal operations in Argentina and Mexico.
The third Asian director is Klaus Herms, managing director of Kuehne & Nagel (Asia Pacific) Management, who has more than 25 years experience of freight forwarding in Asia, especially in the field of airfreight.
Finally, Tung Chee-chen, who recently succeeded his brother, Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa, as chairman of Orient Overseas (International) becomes the fourth TT Club director from Asia.
The club has confirmed three other directorships.
These are Peter Wagner, chief executive of Danzas; Gerard Fischer, chairman and chief executive of Panalpina; and Ray Miles, president of CP Ships.
