Sorry for mistake

I REFER to the letter headlined, ''Empty homes still getting mail'' (South China Morning Post, January 29), in which your correspondent stated that letters were still being delivered to vacated flats in Un Chau Street Estate.

Un Chau Street Estate is in the process of redevelopment.

Phase I involves 2,800 flats, the tenants of which have been given two years, since September 1991, to vacate their premises.

House removals have since been effected in a haphazard manner, and up till now, about one-third of the tenants have moved out.

It is possible that the postman, on occasion, had overlooked the removal notices on the door, bearing in mind that the corridors in these blocks are very dimly lit.

We apologise for the mistake. Arrangements have now been made with the Housing Authority Estate Management Office for up-to-date lists of vacated units to be passed to us promptly so mail for these units can be picked out at the sorting stage, and if no forwarding address has been left with us, the mail will be returned to the senders.

If your correspondent has other questions on the postal delivery service, he/she is requested to contact our Controller of Posts (Kowloon) on 312 1264.
