The China National Symphony Orchestra will give two performances at Hong Kong Cultural Centre's concert Hall, on September 27 and 28.

The orchestra will feature cellist Jian Wang and be conducted by Dr Chen Zuohuang.

The first concert will feature Dvorak's Cello Concerto in B Minor and the Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz.

The second will feature Chinese works, including Wang Xilin's Night of the Torch Festival, excerpts from the famous dance dramas, The Mermaid, Red Detachment of Women and The White-Haired Girl Suite.

It is the first professional orchestra in China with an artistic director fully in charge of the group.

Musicians were chosen by a jury of Chinese and overseas music experts through strict examinations, a spokesman said.

Tickets, at $600, $420, $270 and $120 (students, half-price), are available at Urbtix.
