No-win scenario for royal family

In the wake of the tragic death of the Princess of Wales I cannot but remark on the grossly unfair criticism that is being levelled at the rest of the royal family.

To my way of thinking they have simply demonstrated what used to be regarded as an admirable British trait, namely keeping a stiff upper lip.

Had they showed their feelings of sorrow it would take little imagination to visualise the outrage at 'undignified demonstrations of emotion' and 'hypocrisy' which would have appeared in the same newspapers and publications which now attack them for 'lack of feeling'.

It seems that, in modern Britain, whatever they do the royal family cannot win.
