Ensuring women feel rest assured

Tim Metcalfe

With more businesswomen living out of suitcases in the emancipated 1990s, the hospitality business has been slow to appreciate it can compete for their custom.

But one of the first to make an effort is The Legend Hotel & Apartments in the heart of Kuala Lumpur's business district.

It has answered the awkward dilemma of where to sit a lone female guest at dinner with the novel 'Ladies Table' at the hotel's lifestyle restaurant, SK Cuisine.

'It's a specially dressed-up table for lady guests,' according to spokesman Elizabeth Soo.

'It gives them the opportunity to network with each other and avoid the awkwardness of eating alone.' Malaysia's 'first fully-integrated hotel and apartment complex' has also addressed the issue of what little extras a businesswoman might appreciate in her room.

Facilities include make-up mirrors, a range of bathroom amenities and women's magazines.

Women can also feel re-assured by a special security system giving them direct access to a hotline phone number for emergency assistance.

The unique 'Lady Legend' programme 'caters to the specific needs of women business travellers', Miss Soo said.

'It's our latest feature and it embraces all our facilities and services to pamper discerning women guests.

'The idea is to provide a comfortable business base and a real home-away-from- home while travelling.' There is even a loyalty programme for regular women guests. Thirty nights earn a dinner for two at the award- winning Museum Chinese Restaurant.

Anyone collecting points for staying 150 nights earns a three-day/two-night break for two at The Legend Resort, Cherating - including air fares.
