China's only national daily English-language newspaper is to publish a Hong Kong edition next month.

Funds have been approved by the State Council.

It is understood that more than a dozen Chinese-language publications have applied to set up their Hong Kong editions but they were all refused permission by Beijing. The China Daily Hong Kong edition has recently been trying to drum up congratulatory advertisements for its launch on October 6.

The Hong Kong edition will be managed by a board, comprising the editor in chief Liu Dizhong and two deputies. The newspaper has an office in Aberdeen.
