United Airlines Mileage Plus members are being offered special fares from Hong Kong to North America from today until October 31. Members can use 30,000 miles plus $2,900 for return fares to Honolulu, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver. An encephalitis alert in Florida caused Walt Disney World to take precautions last month, including closing its hotel pools and water parks early each day to avoid bites from a type of mosquito that feeds heavily at dusk.
These mosquitoes, which carry the virus for a strain called St Louis encephalitis, have been detected in nine Florida counties. Disney guests were being urged to cover up and use insect repellent if they went outdoors at twilight.
In yet another twist in the acquisition of frequent-flier points, home owners and buyers can acquire mileage for real estate transactions in the US. Several mortgage companies and real estate firms have formed partnerships with airline frequent-flier programmes.
The re-openings of two grand, colonial era hotels in Cambodia have been postponed due to recent political turmoil in the country. The Singapore-based Raffles International says the Hotel Le Royale in Phnom Penh, and the Grand Hotel d'Angkor near the ancient temples of Angkor will be open for visitors during the 'later part of the year.'
