People who drink three cups of coffee or more per day are 50 per cent less likely to get cancer of the rectum than people who hardly drink coffee, according to a study by a Japanese researcher.

However, Manami Inoue, of the Aichi Cancer Centre Research Institute in central Japan, warned, coffee alone would not stop cancer, saying: 'There are many coffee lovers who smoke and don't take enough exercise.'
