Mistral loses chef

Mario Caramella, chef of the Mistral Restaurant at the Grand Stanford Harbour View, will be leaving the restaurant at the end of October to move to Australia.


A successor has not yet been selected.


Oktoberfest is just around the corner, and the Holiday Inn Golden Mile, considered by some to have the best celebrations in town, is gearing up for this year's parties. The celebrations will take place from October 3-5.


The Friday and Saturday parties start at 7.30pm. Tickets are $450 for dinner, two mugs of beer and one shot of schnapps. On Sunday the party is from 11.30am-2.30pm; tickets cost $220 for a German buffet brunch and one mug of beer.

If you're interested in learning about Swiss cuisine, the Peninsula offers classes with Chesa's executive chef Heinz Oertli. Classes take place from October 22-25. Chef Oertli will demonstrate dishes, which the students will sample at lunch.
