One of the mainland's leading iron and steel giants has signed a joint venture deal to build a US$3.15 million plant in Cameroon, the China Daily reported yesterday. The Anshan Iron and Steel Co, from northeastern Liaoning province, signed the deal with an unnamed Cameroon foreign trade company at a recent trade fair in Anshan, the newspaper quoted industry sources as saying. The mainland side will hold a 55 per cent share of the venture, which will have an annual production capacity of 20,000 tonnes of steel.
