IN answer to all those ''tax experts' who are constantly decrying the narrowing tax base of Hongkong with possible revenue shortfall in the future, why doesn't the Government just raise the marginal income tax rate to 50 per cent for those who are earning more than $500,000? This measure would not only generate more revenue, and pre-empt a sales tax, but also reduce the increasing number of million dollar pay cheques which are so inflationary.
