Top two justices 'go to jail'

The two top judges were given a taste of life behind bars yesterday and were told they could expect to 'do more time'.

Chief Justice Andrew Li Kwok-nang and Chief Judge Patrick Chan Siu-oi went on a five-prison familiarisation tour. Nineteen more correctional institutions await their inspection.

'It gives them a chance to see how the Correctional Services Department works,' a Judiciary spokesman said.

The pair began their day at the minimum security Ma Hang Prison and then went to Stanley to see the other side of life for criminals. At the maximum security institution they watched inmates learn to make items ranging from leather goods to furniture.

Later they watched a marching band display by young offenders at Cape Collision Correctional Institution.
