Clinic kick-start for future pros

Home-grown football hero Tim Bredbury will help launch the first FILA Kick Start Programme, aimed at giving youngsters insights into the way soccer is played at the highest level.

Youths will get the chance to receive coaching from Bredbury, appointed as director of coaching for the new programme.

Former Liverpool player Alan Kennedy will act as a special guest at FILA's launch celebrations.

'We're thrilled that Alan will spearhead this programme,' said Bredbury. 'His years of experience of top-level soccer are bound to be a motivating factor for many of the players taking part in this course.' Programme participants will not only learn to hone their abilities with basic skills like dribbling and shooting, but also will receive tips and personal advice from coaches on how to approach the challenge of becoming a professional.

The five-day clinic starts on October 27 at the King George V School in Tin Kwong Road, Kowloon.

Coaching will be conducted in both English and Cantonese and will be split into three categories - those aged eight to 10, 11 to 13, and 14 to 16. The programme costs $650 (including promotional items).

Kick Start Programme enrolment forms are available from FILA Concept Shops. Deadline for applications is next Friday.

FILA is now focusing on soccer development in Asia.

FILA Sport (Asia) general manager Andrew Brodey said: 'We are proud to give our name to the Kick Start Programme. The concept is very simple: to develop a grassroots programme through which young local soccer players can get the truly unique experience of coaching from top soccer professionals.'
