Thai Finance Minister to quit

Thailand was bracing for another economic shudder today, in the wake of Finance Minister Thanong Bidaya's announcement last night that he would be standing down.


Mr Thanong, formerly president of a commercial bank, said he would not join the Cabinet after a reshuffle expected today or tomorrow, under embattled Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh.


'After four months of work, I will not take the finance minister post.'
