Winning Glory promises more
Trainer Alex Wong Yu-on's small team have been going about their business with a genuine zest this season, and he looks to have a promising recruit in Winning Glory.
Last night was his first attempt of length - after three sprint contests as a griffin - and the three-year-old looked to be very unlucky not to have had a better result in the Class Four fourth event over 1,650 metres, won by topweight Mr Brinker.
He finished third, beaten just over a length, but had five-pound claimer Peter Y. S. Wong taken the run presented to him at the turn, he surely could have beaten Right On to the quinella spot and may have even worried Mr Brinker.
After travelling comfortably on the fence just off the speed in the early stages, Winning Glory looked poised to issue a potent challenge.
But Wong seemed to baulk at his opportunity, electing to steady his charge and shift back to the fence in the hope of squeezing between horses.
It was a bad decision, as once clear of other runners Winning Glory responded well and was finishing best of all.
Follow him whenever he steps out over a mile or further and you ought to see a return on your investment.
