A campaign aimed at youngsters is pushing the message that keeping Hong Kong clean is the responsibility of every citizen.

And now children can absorb this important theme through a stimulating and entertaining package of publicity materials comprising compact discs, cassette tapes and comic books.

The latest push in the campaign - organised by the Joint Provisional Urban Council/ Provisional Regional Council Keep Hong Kong Clean Steering Committee - is based on eight stories recorded by local performers.

The 'keep clean' package was unveiled at a ceremony at Sha Tin New Town Plaza, attended by representatives of the education and social-service sectors.

It will be distributed to nurseries, kindergartens, schools and youth centres.

Officiating at the event were committee chairman Cheng Chun-ping and vice-chairman Joseph Chan Yuek-sut.

Organisations represented included the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Po Leung Kuk, Caritas Hong Kong, Yan Chai Hospital, Pok Oi Hospital, and the Salvation Army.

'These organisations will join hands with us to pass on the spirit of keeping the territory clean . . . from generation to generation,' Mr Cheng said.

Canto-pop singers taking part in a 'Keep Hong Kong Clean' variety show included Julian Cheung, Vivian Lai, Miriam Yeung and Bondie Chiu.
