DEFENDING champions Hongkong Football Club's title hopes nosedived after they were docked three league points for providing unregistered umpires.

Senior clubs are regularly required to provide umpires who are registered by the Hongkong Hockey Association to officiate at lower division matches. Club, who drop to fifth from third, were found to have infringed the rule three times.

Club are now on 38 points, nine behind league leaders Shaheen.

Their skipper, Chris Bredbury, said: ''We are very disappointed.

''Our chances of winning the league are almost gone now. But it is the law and we have to accept it.'' Club are now focusing on the Holland Cup knockout event. They take on second-placed Kowloon Cricket Club in the semi-finals in two weeks.

Shaheen lead KCC by three points in the First Division and have a game in hand.
