Test puts entrant in the picture

As a young boy, Gino Chan's ambition was to become a 'well-known' photographer, following the footsteps of his favourite uncle.

Later, he became interested in fashion business. Now, he is thinking of combining the two and getting into fashion photography.

The High Potential Award he has just won has further boosted his enthusiasm in the fashion sales job he has done for six months with chain store G2000.

'I have been doing this job for only a few months and am far from experienced, so the competition sort of had me prepared for handling crisis,' the 19-year-old award winner said.

'In one of the test cases, someone pretended to be a customer who kept occupying the fitting room for a long time, trying different outfits, while a long queue was waiting. Other customers were impatient. At that time, I did not know it was a test. I thought, what shall I do now?' he said.

'I tried to imagine I was the customer who was trying on clothes and then imagined myself waiting in a long queue. Then I recommended a catalogue to the customer so she could read it and learn how to mix and match before trying on more clothes. Everybody found this fair and was happy.' Mr Chan said the biggest satisfaction from the job was being able to deal with different kinds of people.

'I think I will start from shooting model pictures for G2000. I know the company's style, so I can come up with a lot of ideas. I am confident I will do well,' he said.
