Tim's Dragon shows plenty of early fire

HE won't be 99-1 next time but Tim's Dragon is sure to give you a run for your money this season.

Alex Wong Yu-on's three-year-old was making his raceday debut in the Class Four opener won by Grand Start and he is guaranteed to come on from this most promising of efforts.

The three-year-old by Irish sire Nediym showed that all-important early speed under Patrick Payne and then sprinted gamely over the final furlong to just miss the tierce spot.

Yesterday's 1,200 metres was probably a little on the short side for Tim's Dragon and he looks the type who will benefit from a move up in distance.

In the same event the more-fancied Just Perfect (6-1) ran on from well back in the field and he too is worth keeping in mind when stepped up in journey.

There was also a great effort from On Diamond Hill in what was a Class Three event with plenty of depth.

Stanley Chin was always wide aboard the six-year-old and he still knuckled down at the end of the 1,600 metres to indicate he would be winning when he meets a less competitive field.
