The SAR has asked to share in more than $14 million of drug traffickers' assets seized in operations with the United States. Commissioner for Narcotics Clarie Lo Ku Ka-lee said the SAR was asking the US for money in two of the four cases involved - with one amounting to US$1.8 million (HK$14 million). 'The way it works is usually to split the money in half after deducting the administrative costs,' she said. The other two cases involved the US asking the SAR for money.

The assets would go to the public coffers. Sharing of such assets was made possible when the UN Convention on Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances was extended to Hong Kong in June.
