Leaders gear up for year's challenges

Young leaders gathered at Wah Yan College (Hong Kong) to plan their year's activities.

Representatives from 25 schools attended the annual meeting of the Hong Kong Union for Young Leaders (UYL).

They chose 12 delegates to form a sub-group to help the new executive committee organise and prepare UYL functions for the rest of the year.

'Since it was set up six years ago, UYL has strived to foster leadership talents among secondary school students and fully develop these talents to the benefit of society,' a spokesman said.

Each year UYL organises activities for Form Four students with leadership potential.

A social service project is held during the Lunar New Year holidays. Its aim is to increase students' awareness of social problems and nurture a sense of responsibility and caring towards the less privileged.

The highlight of the UYL calendar is an annual four-day camp during the Easter holidays.

Two students from each member school attend. They learn about leadership and discuss current affairs and moral issues.
