Tradelink boost for textile exporters

The Tradelink electronic document service is to launch an improved version of its Silknet package for garment and textile companies.

The upgraded service, to be introduced by February, will enable firms to send carrier notifications electronically.

Presently, exporters can apply for a textile licence electronically but must obtain a hard copy from the Trade Department for the carrier.

Besides the improved version of Silknet, Tradelink will provide facilities for making trade declarations electronically.

Tradelink is building a network of strategic partners including Hewlett-Packard and Hong Kong Star Internet to speed the move to electronic trade declarations.

About 70,000 companies have to submit declarations electronically by March 31, 2000, when the Government will close counters receiving paper declarations.
