It was the newcomers who caught the eye in last night's second event and they should be followed now that they've had the benefit of racing experience.

Brave Star (60-1) and Winwin Combination (31-1) finished third and fourth respectively in the 1,200-metre Class Four event and both were making good ground over the concluding stages behind all-the-way winner Vantage Point.

Winwin Combination was wide from the outset and his run was particularly pleasing as he pushed forward from the 600 metres and kept giving all the way to the finish.

It is always encouraging to see first starters behave under lights at the Valley and Winwin Combination did just that.

The same cannot be said of Brave Star, who missed the start and raced a little freely for visiting Club Jockey Jason Weaver. But there's enough there to suggest that this son of Snippets has a sprinting future.
