Antwerp sets container record

Belgium's Antwerp port has set a traffic record for containerised cargo, handling more than 30 million tonnes by the end of November, compared with 29.5 million tonnes for all of 1996. It said traffic to November 30 this year was up 13 per cent from 26.8 million tonnes in the same period a year ago - representing more than 20 per cent of Western Europe container traffic.
