Dragon dancers breathe fire into festivities

Dragon dancers brought life, colour and drama to special Police Night celebrations.

Twenty members of Yau Tsim Junior Police Call (JPC) entertained thousands who attended the first Police Night since the handover.

Accompanied by music performed by the Hong Kong Silver Band, the JPC dragon twisted, jumped, rolled and crawled, thrilling the audience with its skilled antics.

'Our dragon team practises regularly and prepared specially for a week before the show to make sure they were perfect,' a Yau Tsim JPC spokesman said.

'The practice was tough but it was worth it because the performance was such a success,' he said.

The audience also was thrilled by the mock deployment of a Police Tactical Unit (PTU) in Saxon armoured vehicles and a mock tear gas attack.

PTU officers also demonstrated how they went about subduing a group of rioters.

During the one-hour show, the audience was treated to enchanting music by a police band from Singapore.

There also was a silent drill carried out by members of the Police Training School.
