Yellow House egged its team to victory at the HKTA Tang Hin Memorial Secondary School's annual athletic meet.

Staged at Sheung Shui Sports Ground, it was held in fine weather with a balmy breeze providing the perfect backdrop.

About 800 students took part in two days of athletic endeavour.

Yellow House's excellent performance, especially among the girls, saw it scoop the overall House Championship and win the Best Sportsmanship prize.

The Individual Boys' Champion in Grade A was Hung Oi-shing of Red House; the Individual Girl's Champion in Grade A was Cheung Pui-yan of Blue House. Blue House won the Overall Boys' title.

Cheering-team members shouted supportive slogans and also added thunderous applause and cheers, keeping their sides' spirits high.

Yellow House took the Best Cheering Team Award for their outstanding performance.

Principal Poon Huen-wai said he was pleased with the students' enthusiasm on and off the field.

He emphasised that sport was indispensable to the healthy development of an individual.

Guests-of-honour at the awards ceremony were Tong Wai- ki, head of the Hong Kong Taoist Association, and Kwok Ka-ming, Hong Kong Sports Institute's senior coach.

Addressing the ceremony, Kwok drew an analogy between sports days and society in general.

'Both involve participation in a system in which the spirit of unity and co-operation is stressed,' he said.
