Keeping close watch on lanes

I refer to the letter headlined, 'Lane jumpers', by Sandra Wyatt of Tai Po which appeared in the South China Morning Post, on December 11.

Ms Wyatt's assertion that a lack of lane discipline causes accidents is entirely correct, in particular improper use of the outside lane.

In respect of the Tolo Highway she can be assured that officers of Traffic New Territories North are taking a very serious view of the improper use of outside lane.

In fact, over the past six months on Tolo Highway alone, police have issued 86 fixed-penalty tickets to drivers who failed to comply with 'Keep Left Unless Overtaking' traffic signs. Such action will continue, together with anti-speeding and anti-tailgating operations, as a concerted effort to reduce the incidence of traffic accidents on the Tolo Highway and other expressways in Hong Kong.
