Giacomo Puccini's Turandot will be performed for the first time where the composer set it - Beijing's Forbidden City.

The opera's director will be three-time Oscar nominee Zhang Yimou, the mainland film-maker who shot his most acclaimed movie, Raise the Red Lantern, inside the Forbidden City.

Renowned conductor Zubin Mehta will lead the Florence Opera in eight performances, starting in September.
