Wendyll Woods escaped unhurt from a crashing fall at Happy Valley last night and said: 'I was definitely lucky.' Woods was riding Taurus for trainer Lawrie Fownes in the sixth event when he clipped heels and came down.

'I had no chance, it happened in a flash. I hit the ground and rolled and luckily nothing clipped me,' said Woods. 'I just sat there, looked up and said 'thank God'. It could have been a lot different.' Meanwhile, John Murtagh was fined $5,000 for misuse of the whip before a trial at Sha Tin on Tuesday.

Evidence at the inquiry conducted before racing began last night was taken from chief vet Keith Watkins who saw the incident.
