The Corporate Games of 1997, jointly organised by the Provisional Urban Council and the Provisional Regional Council, were successfully concluded this month.

The games have entered their eighth year. Since their introduction, participation from corporations has been most active. This year, there were 242 firms and corporations, with over 10,000 taking part in 18 competitions.

The enthusiastic response demonstrated the popularity of the games among local corporations.

The provisional municipal councils have been actively promoting the concept of 'sport for all'. Activities are organised through district recreation and sports offices to provide the public with more opportunities to take part in various healthy recreational activities.

The games were also organised on this principle to provide the staff of participating corporations with more chance to exercise and foster their interest in sport.

In addition, it is hoped that through participation in various competitions, staff can strengthen co-operation and communication skills, develop a team spirit and enhance their sense of belonging to their organisations.

The success of this event can be attributed to the participation of various corporations and the efforts of many others.

I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to them and hope they will continue to support the event next year so that the Corporate Games will make further progress whereby athletes will co-operate to display their team spirit for better results in the competitions.

RONALD LEUNG DING-BONG Chairman of the Provisional Urban Council
