More than 50 million yuan (HK$46.75 million) in aid has been allocated to Tibet to help victims of the region's biggest recorded snowstorms.
'The number of counties affected has risen to 40. Some had 95 millimetres of snow in just 24 hours and the lowest temperature was minus 34 degrees Celsius,' said Cering Sangzhub, Vice-Chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Regional People's Government. He said no one had died.
He told the China News Service rescue teams were sending tonnes of food, fuel, medicine and clothing to the area.
The region's military and People's Armed Police have been mobilised to relocate people in the worst-hit places to safer areas.
Telecommunication departments have spent 1.8 million yuan in installing equipment in the region to speed rescue work.
