Police seize firecrackers

Police yesterday seized 225 kilograms of firecrackers and fireworks intended for illegal sale to villagers and holidaymakers to celebrate the Lunar New Year.


The consignment in 30 cartons were found in three village houses including a snack shop in Lee Uk Village, Tai Po. The 65-year-old snack shop owner was arrested and later released on $5,000 bail. Police said the haul included rockets and flares from Dongguan in Guangdong and was worth about $50,000.
