The International Maritime Bureau has advised cargo owners to exercise caution when chartering mainland-operated vessels, according to a Lloyd's List report.

The Bureau said there had been at least three incidents over the past two months in which mainland owners had rejected standard procedures for settling charter-party disagreements, and instead discharged cargoes in the mainland for subsequent sale.

One incident allegedly involved a consignment of 9,000 tonnes of jute, loaded in Bangladesh.
