Norway's Aker RGI has won a preliminary decision on the second privatisation of the MTW shipyard, according to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern state officials.

State premier Bernt Seite said the Cabinet would meet on Tuesday to decide in favour of Aker RGI, which had lifted its offer on the shipyard to 85 million deutschemarks (about HK$360 million) from 80 million marks, and was prepared to pay a further five million marks to buy the Elbe shipyard in Boizenburg.

It also offered to guarantee 1,600 jobs rather than the 1,550 agreed previously.
