Airport delay is scandalous

The railway is opening on June 22 or so, therefore why can the airport not open on June 22, or June 29 at the latest? No proper answer has been given by the Government.

One is left with the feeling that the delay to July 6 is either because the Airport Authority is struggling more than it admits and cannot complete the project until June, or that it has been delayed by fung shui considerations of an 'auspicious date'.

If it is the latter, it is a scandalous abuse of public money to delay a project, leading to millions of dollars of losses, on the basis of a mistaken belief in a system that has no place in modern Hong Kong public life.

NAME AND ADDRESS SUPPLIED I write in reference to the Government's recent decision to move the airport's opening date to July and subsequently charge the major companies involved with the delays, as well as asking for financial reparations.

I ask why, when many of the contracts covering the terminal buildings and associated infrastructure were not supposed to be completed until August as agreed by all parties, the Government has since seen fit to bring forward this date - obviously without a full appraisal of the situation - and now wishes to hide this by publicly condemning others who have done nothing but work to the original completion date.
