Help to prevent suicide deaths

By the time your readers read the letters page again tomorrow, another two people in Hong Kong will have taken their lives.

Every death brings pain, grief and heartache.

The effects of a suicide death are far-reaching and can be devastating.

Parents of teenage suicide victims are left with lifelong grief and bewilderment - children of elderly suicides know the agonies of guilt and loss.

I am writing to ask if any of your readers would like to help us in our efforts to prevent such needless deaths and consequential pain.

The Samaritans Suicide Prevention Service is seeking volunteers of all nationalities to man their 24-hour hotline. An introductory evening will be held on Monday, February 9, at 7.30pm.

A preparation training course will be given to those who are selected, and the medium of instruction is English.
