Grateful for speedy rescue from marine police

On December 21, three of my friends and I went hiking in the Clear Water Bay area of the New Territories.

We intended to go from the University of Science and Technology to Nam Wai village.

The beginning of the path was well-marked, but later became very overgrown and we lost our way and soon found ourselves stranded.

My elderly friends were exhausted and so worried that I went on alone to try to find a way out of our predicament.

I reached a deserted beach and, seeing a sailing boat, shouted for help.

However, the boat could not come near the shore and the owner offered to call 999. Soon after, a police launch came to our rescue and took us to Sai Kung.

We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the sergeant and three officers from the marine police launch PL30 for the speed with which they helped us, their professionalism and their kindness.

We have donated $1,000 to the Police Welfare Fund as a small token of our gratitude.
