Intriguing clash of halfbacks in store
Hong Kong Football Club scrumhalf and captain Martin Robertson might well be looking to prove a point when he leads his side into battle against DeA at King's Park today.
An intriguing duel is in prospect between the diminutive Scottish halfback and his DeA opposite number, the fit-again Stephen Kidd.
Robertson is looking to stake a claim in the national team and will be hoping to impress against Kidd, on his day the best No.9 in the territory.
'I've played against Skiddy before and he's always a tough opponent,' Robertson said yesterday.
'It's more difficult for scrumhalves to scrap with each other since the law changes. You can't touch the scrum at all now and if you do the refs blow up for it.
'But even so it's going to be hard work against him [Kidd] because he is a very good player,' he added.
While Kidd is a scrumhalf of the explosive all-action variety, Robertson is perhaps best when acting as the classic unobtrusive link between forwards and backs.
His silky passing from the base of the scrum should unleash Club's potent back division against opponents who went down 18-8 against Kowloon in Thursday night's fixture.
'We've got a strong back division and a good set of forwards. It's very handy because it means we have the ability to play a tight or expansive game,' Robertson added.
