A police boat and a suspected smugglers' vessel sank last night after a collision east of Cheung Chau.

Two suspects were missing after being thrown into the sea. A third suspect and three police officers were rescued.

The collision occurred at about 11.45 pm when the speedboat from the Anti-Smuggling Taskforce attempted to intercept the suspect vessel.

Police launches pulled the sergeant and two constables to safety, but were unable to find the two missing suspects.

The launches, two fireboats, a helicopter and divers were at the scene early this morning.
