Another $45 million is being sought for a feasibility study on the controversial Green Island reclamation.

The year-long study was needed as part of the goal of housing 135,800 people by 2008, said Principal Assistant Secretary for Planning, Environment and Lands Wilson Fung Wing-yip.

He said the reclamation had yet to be approved by the Executive Council.

'We are just examining the feasibility of the project,' he told provisional legislators. It is the third time funding has been sought for the project, held up since 1995 by public opposition to the joining of the Kennedy Town waterfront to Green Island.
