I find it absolutely appalling that the showcase event for the world's finest athletes, the Winter Olympics, is not being covered by any of Hong Kong's television stations.
Do these stations have the audacity to believe that because Hong Kong does not have an Olympic representative, no one is interested? Have we not become part of the PRC and do we not have some of the best athletes competing in a variety of disciplines? If these television stations believe Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city, should they not feel obliged to satisfy the interests of a cosmopolitan culture and cover a world event that other cosmopolitan cities would not even consider omitting from their viewing audience? The Hong Kong television stations have done the people of Hong Kong a great disservice by thinking that unless their programming is geared to the making of money or horse racing, we would not be interested.
It is no wonder that with the drivel these stations have the nerve to call excellent programming, cosmopolitan viewers - such as myself - are switching off in droves.
